Surroundings - Florence CascineCascine of Florence have a large natural park of 160 hectares spread over three and a half kilometers in length along Arno River.
The Cascine Park is one of the most loved by the Florentines, a central park Italian hangout for young people, families, the elderly, cyclists and runners. There are two racetracks, a velodrome, a pool, a tennis club and many sports activities. For the future there is an investment plan that provides for the construction of many buildings and facilities such as restaurants, a visitor center and a refreshment area.
A little bit of historyCascine has behind nearly 5 centuries of history: born in 1563 as a hunting lodge and farm of Cosimo I Medici. Their name comes from "cascio", the place where the cows were kept and then became a park. In the eighteenth century the architect Giuseppe Manetti made her beautiful, creating buildings as Pavoniere, the royal palace and the amphitheater.
Among the most curious buildings is the pyramid of Cascine, a little more than 10 meters high is located in the east of the park. This building was built in the eighteenth century as a warehouse / underground, to keep ice and snow, used by the Florentines to create the ice cream.
